Hello families! My name is Amanda Parrott and I’m happy to be working in the ADS community again. I was a teacher here for 5 years working in grades K-3. I went on to teach in other schools both in Austin and abroad in Sydney, Australia. In total, I have over 10 years experience working with children.
I’m a certified Texas teacher EC-6, Special Education certification, have a B.A. in Social Science and my Masters Degree in Education from Portland State University. Another area of focus is my certificate as a Group Fitness Instructor that I earned at the College of Sport and Fitness in Sydney. I have a lot of experience with Project-Based Learning, Drama Based Instruction, and love to incorporate art into the classroom whenever possible. I also find the hands-on, social emotional learning, and whole child philosophy at ADS to be strongly aligned with my own teaching style.
On a more personal note, I recently moved back to Austin after 2 years living/traveling in Australia. I find travel to be one of the most rewarding experiences in life as I love to learn about new cultures, languages, foods, and natural wonders. I’ve been to 14 different countries and counting. I was born in Dallas, but grew up in Portland, Oregon. I found my way back to Texas because of the appeal of “weird” Austin, the city I now call home. In my free time you’ll find me riding motorcycles, doing yoga/meditation, training for a marathon, or going to see live music.
I’m so excited to be a part of this amazing school community. Thank you for having me!
