Welcome Back, ADS!  Monday is the big day!

We loved seeing so many of you at Meet the Teacher and are really looking forward to getting the school year started. School starts at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m. except on Wednesdays, when it ends at 1:50 p.m.

CAMPUS TRAFFIC: Are you wondering what morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up traffic will look like?  Visit the description of expectations and tips on our website
here and remember that it usually takes about 2 weeks for traffic to smooth out to a predictable flow as parents learn what works for them and students become comfortable with the routine of being dropped off.

7th & 8th graders, please gather in the library on Monday morning.  All other students, once classroom building doors are open at 7:45, please go to your classrooms!  If you didn't order school supplies to be delivered directly to the school, please bring your supplies to your classrooms (or the library, 7th & 8th graders).

Exciting news from the Lunch Program!

You spoke, and we listened!

For the 2018-2019 school year and beyond, Austin Discovery School has a new hot lunch partner. Haute Lunch, a local school lunch provider and catering company, will provide a hot lunch option to our community. We have been looking for a way to improve quality and efficiency of our hot lunch program, and Haute Lunch provides this opportunity.

We surveyed the ADS community last year to see what we could do to grow the lunch program and have it better serve the families and staff at ADS. The results of this poll were consistent and conclusive: The ADS community wanted to see our hot lunch program include more dietary choices, fresher foods, a larger variety of entrees and sides, less waste (packaging, etc.), and overall higher integrity of ingredients. We are so happy to have found a partner who can meet all of these requests!

Providing hot lunch for students and staff at ADS has been quite a journey. As a goal, the final iteration of our lunch program will be food made in-house with ingredients raised in our gardens by our students. Until we have the commercial facility necessary for this, we will continue to partner with providers who share our values and strive to provide the best food possible at an affordable price.

If you are a current participant of the ADS hot lunch program, we will migrate your account over to the new system and provide instruction soon. If you do not yet participate in ADS hot lunch, now is the perfect time to begin! Email with your questions and if you would like to enroll in the program. Ordering lunch can happen as frequently or infrequently as you like, but we do need to set up accounts.

For lunch the first week of school, please email us as soon as possible so we can make sure you will be able to order. We will also be available at Meet the Teacher to help set up your online lunch accounts!

Thank you ADS!
