Hello Discovery Parents,
My name is Michele Hanlon, and I am excited to join the Austin Discovery School team as the new 2nd grade English Language Arts/Social Studies teacher! I am of the rare breed that was born and raised in Austin, TX, and I’m happy to still call this wonderful city home.
I graduated from UT Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Learning & Development (hook ‘em), then earned my Master’s degree in Education from Texas State University. I have eight years of experience teaching in both 2nd & 3rd grades, successfully implementing student driven, project-based learning.
I have two amazing daughters that light up my life and keep me on my toes daily! Mia, my eldest, is navigating the exciting waters of her sophomore year in high school while pursuing choir and theater. Her younger sister Skylar blossoms in middle school, cheers competitively, and works hard in pursuit of her goal of becoming a veterinarian.
I can appreciate that a mid-year teacher change is a transition, but I want to assure you that the philosophy of ADS aligns well with my own, and I really look forward to working with you and your student to build on the successes of the Fall semester!
Have a safe and happy winter break!
