John was born and raised in a small Philadelphia suburb. He graduated from the Boyer College of Music at Temple University in Philadelphia. After a number of years directing a summer music program in up-state New York, John decided to pursue a career that promotes his philosophy of music and the outdoor world. He worked for a year teaching music and environmental sciences in Houston ISD's Outdoor Education Center. John then noticed that his goals of teaching and performing on the side would be better suited in the city of Austin, rather than the middle of the Sam Houston National Forest. He is excited to begin his first year with the Austin Discovery School and believes that music class should be fun! He uses a Kodaly and Orff approach to guide students in developing: music literacy, singing, thoughtful thinking, movement, and creativity through folk songs and games. When not teaching, John is recording with various projects around the country, performing around town, and hiking in the many Texas state parks!
