Drama Based Instruction

In 2010, ADS partnered with UT’s Theatre and Dance Department in a two-year program to train teachers and introduce the strategy of drama-based instruction to use in core academic areas. Through drama-based activities, students are able to experience concepts such as erosion, the Underground Railroad, and even division.
By utilizing kinesthetic activities and increasing the excitement and relevance of subject matter, drama-based instruction helps students remember concepts and make connections with their learning.
Through this partnership, several of our teachers became trainers in Drama Based Instruction, and they continue to offer professional development in DBI strategies to our faculty each year.
Please visit the UT Theatre and Dance Department to learn more about this research-based, exciting teaching strategy.
